There are many mental health podcasts that give advice on how to cope with anxiety, depression and other mental health-related challenges. However, one podcast in particular has gained significant attention for its life-changing advice: The Mel Robbins Podcast.
The podcast is currently No. 1 on Spotify's Top Podcasts chart in the United States for its captivating storytelling, advice and coping mechanisms. It covers a variety of mental health topics and even features guests who discuss the science behind certain mental health issues and how listeners can manage them.
Much of the content in Robbins' podcast is backed by scientific research on how certain mental health issues function and how people can adapt their lives to cope.
One of her most well-known pieces of advice is her morning routine. On her show, Robbins shares how she struggled with anxiety, especially right after waking up. Many times, she found it difficult to get out of bed because the overwhelming feelings of anxiety left her frozen in place. Because of this, Robbins developed a routine that helps her start her day and reduce debilitating anxiety.
The routine begins with getting out of bed as soon as the alarm goes off. Robbins accomplishes this by counting down in her head from five to one. Once she reaches one, she launches herself out of bed to start her day. The next step is making her bed or tidying up her space. She explains that committing to this small act each day helps implement discipline in her daily life. Then, Robbins gives herself a high-five in the mirror, as the action helps rewire the brain to focus on self-love and positive reinforcement.
Next, she drinks water before consuming caffeine or other substances, as drinking water first is proven to support brain cognition and overall health. After that, she gets outside and takes in sunlight. Stepping outside as soon as possible helps boost energy and reset the body's natural clock, even when the weather isn’t ideal. The final step is movement—whether a walk, stretch or workout, any form of movement is beneficial. Moving in the morning is important because it can improve mood, clear the mind and increase productivity.
Robbins has many other tactics that she encourages her followers to incorporate into their daily lives. She has authored multiple books, shares frequent social media content, and hosts podcast episodes that cover a variety of mental health topics that have helped many people. There’s a reason her podcast is at the top of the charts—her advice changes lives.
