Although the classic party girl has been around for the last century, something is different about this year's most well-known party girls. They have a unique look that feels familiar—less grungy than Ke$ha but more reminiscent of 1990s icons like Courtney Love or Kate Moss: messy, unhinged, and iconic. This is exactly what is being delivered this year.
Charli XCX
As we all know, Charli XCX dropped her album ‘BRAT’ this summer, sparking a cultural reset and a shift from the “clean girl” aesthetic to the BRAT aesthetic. Most of the songs on ‘BRAT’ reference partying and the lifestyle of the pop star, who is 32. The difference between a party girl and a grunge party girl lies in the overall look. Charli is rarely seen without her sunglasses, and when she is, she always has a full smoky makeup look. She consistently wears clothes that fit this aesthetic: sheer fabrics, sparkles, fur, and messy elements, all somehow wrapped into chic outfits. While on the SWEAT tour with her friend and fellow pop artist Troye Sivan, she has showcased look after look while singing her songs and dancing on stage with her friends.
Addison Rae
The girl who got her start as a TikTok influencer in 2019 and was known as ‘cringe’ to many on the internet has completely transformed her image into something entirely different: fun, camp, flirty, and iconic. Her Instagram has been revamped, dating back to March when she posted with Charli XCX, announcing a feature on the remix of ‘Von Dutch.’ Since then, she has shared pictures that harken back to the early 2010s Tumblr era, emulating the same vibe we once got from Kesha but in a new, revamped way. This summer, Addison Rae dropped her hit single ‘Diet Pepsi.’ The song blew up on social media, and this past week, she released another single, ‘Aquamarine,’ which has already garnered significant attention. The two have been seen partying together and living their lives in a seemingly “no regrets” manner.
