Everyone looks forward to receiving their Spotify Wrapped, a gift just before the holidays! This year, Spotify went all out with their bright graphics, making it extra fun and aesthetic.
The 2023 Spotify Wrapped celebrated the usual: listeners’ top artists, songs, and albums. It also, however, gave personalized artist messages from listeners’ top artists. Spotify used their new “AI DJ” feature to guide listeners through their Wrapped as well. You can also use the Blend feature to share your Wrapped with friends!
New this year, Spotify included “Sound Town,” which matches listeners to a city based on what they listen to. My city, for example, was San Luis Obispo. People there are more likely to be fans of Grateful Dead, Mt. Joy, and SZA.
“Me in 2023” also shows listeners their streaming habits. Out of 12 cards, listeners are given a character that defines their listening. Mine was “Vampire”—my music was more emotional and atmospheric.
This year, the top global artists were Taylor Swift, Bad Bunny, The Weeknd, and Drake. Miley Cyrus’s song “Flowers” was the top streamed song (with 1.6 billion streams around the globe). Coming in at second and third were “Kill Bill” by SZA and “As It Was” by Harry Styles.
The top podcasts included The Joe Rogan Experience, Call Her Daddy, and Anything Goes with Emma Chamberlain.
Several trends also affected Wrapped this year. There were 10,000 “Girl Dinner” playlists, including songs “Cherry” by Lana Del Rey and “Champagne Problems” by Taylor Swift. Seasonally, female artists and their events like Beyonce’s “Renaissance Tour,” Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour,” and the Barbie movie all motivated trends in music and podcasts during the spring and summer.
Everyone enjoy your Wrapped…let us meet the same time next year!
