You know and love it. The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is back!
Held in New York City on Oct. 15, fans eagerly awaited the show’s fresh direction. In recent years, Victoria’s Secret has faced criticism for its model exclusivity, often portraying a narrow image with slim bodies, long legs, and a specific look that some argue doesn’t reflect the diversity and beauty of all women. However, this year, Victoria’s Secret is broadening its representation to include models of various body types, ethnicities, and ages. In a notable first, transgender models Alex Consani and Valentina Sampaio joined the runway.
Iconic, fan-favorite names like Adriana Lima, Tyra Banks, Taylor Hill, Kate Moss, Carla Bruni, and Bella & Gigi Hadid paraded the dazzling and iconic wings down the runway. Viewers could not hold back their excitement. Even better, the show featured all-female performances from Cher, Tyla, and Lisa of Blackpink.
Though fans certainly commend Victoria’s Secret from a fashion standpoint for its distinguished lingerie lines, this year’s message was beyond style: Victoria’s Secret made a stance with its return with its progression in redefining what it means to be beautiful.
Millions of viewers tune in to watch these incredible women empower themselves and those around them. Isn’t that what being a woman should be all about? Lifting other women up to celebrate their beauty, character and accomplishments is something that we should strive for daily. It is safe to say Victoria’s Secret certainly is back in the game and the spotlight now more than ever.
