Whether you are just finishing up your midterms or you're completely done with them, you deserve a chance to unwind. You deserve a chance to remind yourself that you made it through half of the year and you're still breathing. Sometimes we lose ourselves in our pursuit and forget about the things we enjoy. And what better way to unwind and remind ourselves of who we are than a nostalgic playlist that sends us back.
Listen to the article here.
The first of the four songs is a 2010’s classic that is perfect for the position we are in: “We Are Young” by the band Fun. This song was released ten years ago, but it still softens any negative thoughts about a young college student’s life. It reminds them of the times that are still yet to be lived, and its slow but powerful beat gives off a positive aura for the moments it is played. It brings us back to whatever it was we were doing in 2012. Whether it was hanging out with old friends, playing video games, running a lemonade stand or just relaxing on a long car ride with your family.
The second song is none other than the 2009 hit, “Bad Romance” by Lady Gaga. While it is not the most lyrically sound song out there, the pure sense of nostalgia and alacrity it brings is unmatched. With an up-beat melody, and Lady Gaga’s unique adlibs, it works as the perfect pick me up. There has yet to be another song that can make random sounds work so well and bring out so much emotion.
At number three, we have a sad gem that hits all the right spots when listened to: “Let Her Go” by the soft spoken poet Passenger. A song about taking things for granted and not realizing how important they are to you until you lose them. A great message for the average college student. After all, we are still young and have plenty of time to live our lives to the fullest in our own way. If we focus too much on school or put too much pressure on ourselves, we might end up at an age where we can no longer do these things and wonder where the time went.
To end on a positive note, we have the ultimate summer vibes song. “Midnight City by M83 is an immaculate song choice for when you are down and looking to get the feeling of summer break back, where there wasn’t a worry in the world, even if it is just for a few minutes.
