When it comes to beauty tips and tricks, the internet is never short of ideas. “The Red Nail Theory” has been the latest trend, popping up on various social media platforms. This theory believes that wearing red polish on your nails makes you more attractive as an individual, which will somehow score you more dates. Red has always been related to feelings of love and attraction, but is a red manicure really enough to spark romance?
Marketing guru Robyn DelMonte, also known as @GirlBossTown on TikTok, initially brought the red nail theory to life earlier this year. DelMonte claimed that everytime she wore a red manicure, at least one guy would compliment her.
However, complimenting the color red stems deeper than most people may think. Back in the ‘90s, red manicures were extremely popular. DelMonte states, “I weirdly think guys are attracted to red nails because it reminds them of their moms when they were growing up and taking care of them.”

While this theory seems a little odd, many people actually defended its validity. There has been plenty of anecdotal evidence from TikTok users who have tested the theory. However, the theory is far from scientific. There has never been any plausible evidence to back it up besides people’s personal experiences with red nails.
While a manicure might not be a definite solution in your world of romance, it can make you feel more confident as an individual. Red has always been a bold color associated with confidence which is why it may stand out.
Furthermore, if you believe that wearing a certain color makes you more attractive, you naturally act more confident which radiates to people around you.
So are the rumors true? It never hurts to test it out. Head to the store, buy some red polish and wait for your dates to roll in.
