On Monday Oct. 25, Kim Kardashian West disclosed a new, yet unexpected collaboration with her acclaimed brand, SKIMS, a shape wear brand designed to enhance curves, and Italian luxury brand, Fendi. Launching on Nov. 9, the collection features swimwear, hosiery, lingerie and apparel, with a mission of creating garments designed for all women.

Kim Jones, Fendi’s creative director of womenswear and haute couture, detailed the dawn of the collaboration when the women in her office suddenly went silent during a meeting in Rome, stating, "I didn't know what was going on, but they were waiting for the launch of the new SKIMS collection. It was then that I thought: “let's do something together”. When Kim heard that Fendi was a fan of her brand, she sent them some of her shapewear and the possibility of working together took off.

The collaboration’s inspiration comes from a 1979 Fendi collection by Karl Lagerfield and combines the two brands’ visions. The clothes are largely minimist and will continue the design of tight-fitting pieces accentuating the body’s shape and curves, featuring earthy tones as well as bright colors such as fuschia. The collab will include pieces such as dresses and tops, leggings, and puffer jackets and will be printed with a new SKIMS X Fendi logo.

One of the new items features a sleeveless bonded leather wrap dress, available in eight shades and, according to a Fendi press release, “draws upon Roman aesthetics to offer statuesque transformation”. The price range of these new pieces is more costly than usual SKIMS shapewear, ranging from $950 to $4,200; the cost of the leather wrap dress.

In the press release, Kim details the vision for the collaboration, stating, “Both Fendi and Skims have a cultural power very different from each other, but equally as strong. We share a desire to push boundaries, think differently and challenge convention.”
