The arrival of fall also means the arrival of rainy days. The days where the skies are gray and cloudy, the sidewalks are full of puddles in all of the uneven planes, and the temperature turns the tips of your ears red. Of course this is only seen through the window sitting in your bed. Because why would you go outside when you can stay cuddled in your blanket watching your favorite tv show? Especially during the day on the weekends, when it seems as if campus is deserted. Even though all you want to do is stay in bed, you have a ton of work to get done, but you can’t find motivation to get up and do it. So, here are some tips for when it's hard to get out of the warmth and comfort of your bed to get all your work done.
The first tip is to get out of your room. There are plenty of spots around campus where you can study and work for a couple of hours without distractions. If you stay in your room, you are more likely to cave and procrastinate. Grab an umbrella and a warm rain jacket, and get out. You’ll be more productive somewhere that isn’t where you sleep, especially if you live in the dorms.
The second tip seems simple but can make a huge difference: get ready for the day. Change out of the pjs that you wore to bed (but still comfy!), wash your face, and if you are feeling like it, maybe even put on some makeup. Feeling a little bit more put together can prompt feelings of productivity and allow for you to get more of your work done during the day. You’ll have the confidence to do what needs to be done.
The third tip is to make sure you have a sufficient amount of food in your system. Either go to the dining hall or make it at your place, but having a meal before studying allows for your body to have the energy it needs to be productive for long periods of time. And you won’t be distracted by the constant thoughts of hunger.
Finally, the last tip is a system of time management that works best for you. Write everything that you need to get done on a piece of paper, planner or even on the computer, and then cross off each thing as you complete it. Also, allow yourself to have an hour of productive time, and then maybe 30 minutes of scrolling through TikTok. This creates a healthy balance so you aren’t pushing yourself too hard, especially when you don't even want to get out of bed.
