Basics, basics, basics. Everyone insists you need them–they are timeless, they are easy to style, but they can be boring sometimes. With the fall season here, it is time to think about the best fall staples you need in your closet, where to get them, and how you can spice them up.
The Mini Skirt
Everyone needs that perfectly fitted black mini skirt, the one you grab immediately. There is the Danielle Guizo skirt option, which is more price heavy as well as the more affordable Princess Polly option. The key to the perfect fall mini skirt is built-in shorts, which both options have. My go-to going-out outfit has to be my mini skirt, a fun boot, a fitted high-neck top, and some statement hoops to tie everything together.
The Boot
The classic black boot is essential. I know your dirty sneakers from two years ago need a break, and with the classic black boot, like these from Famous Footwear, you can transform a plain jean skirt and top immediately. Tall black boots, a longline flyaway top with a low-waisted skirt, and your favorite jewelry.
The Sweatshirt
Your walk to class in the crisp air will be changed forever. The perfect hoodie is slightly oversized, cozy, the piece you will reach for constantly. This Aritzia option is definitely on the pricier side, but the comfort cannot be matched. It will always be a staple in your closet, and the versatility of a quality hoodie is priceless. Think about your favorite workout set -preferably colorful- matched with your new hoodie, a fun zig-zag headband, and some ankle socks and Sambas and you are ready for class: comfy yet undeniably cute.
The Denim
Think about those jeans that are tight in all the wrong places or the ones your mom bought you years ago with the tag still on. Once you discover your favorite pair of denim -the ones you feel confident in- you will reach for them daily. Although this option is high-waisted, go with whatever rise you are comfortable in. Dinner with friends? Your favorite tight-fitting bodysuit tucked into these jeans matched with your classic pair of sneakers, statement necklace and a leather jacket, and you are ready to go.
The Jacket
You never know you need a staple leather jacket until you get it. This one from Cotton On is the perfect length, reasonably priced, and will be the key to dressing up a simple outfit in a classic way. Picture your new leather jacket matched with a fun top and skirt set and some knee-high boots, and you will be ready for the perfect night out this fall.
