If you’ve been shopping anytime in the last two months, there’s a new trend you might have seen: the color of spring, butter yellow, has taken over the fashion scene.
This soft, creamy shade of yellow has been popping up everywhere—from runways to street style. It’s the perfect shade to welcome warmer weather, bringing a sense of brightness and optimism to your wardrobe. Similar to the 2010s with millennial pink, butter yellow has taken over the fashion world. It has been featured in all kinds of clothing and decor from brands like Gap, Abercrombie, KitchenAid and many more. It's a versatile hue that pairs effortlessly with other pastels, neutrals and even bold contrasting colors like navy or charcoal. The beauty of butter yellow is its ability to evoke warmth and sophistication while still feeling light and fresh. It's no wonder this color has become the go-to choice for spring collections.
The color has been around for years, first making a big impact on the zeitgeist in the 2003 rom-com How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. We all know the iconic scene of Andie Anderson in the beautiful Carolina Herrera butter yellow dress. The color evokes nostalgia and has become even more impactful since 2024 with a new rise in popularity. Timothée Chalamet was seen in a head-to-toe fit of butter yellow at the Oscars this year as a top contender for best actor. Sabrina Carpenter wore a bodysuit in the hue during her standout Gov Ball performance last year and on her Short n’ Sweet Tour. The color has lately been on the cover of Vogue, and top-tier celebrities like Hailey Bieber and Rihanna have incorporated it into their everyday street style. Most importantly, major fashion houses like Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Versace have embraced the shade on their runways, which only adds to its status as a must-have color this season.

Even in the entertainment world, butter yellow continues to make waves, with Lola Tung wearing it in a teaser for the final season of The Summer I Turned Pretty. This color’s popularity highlights its versatility and ability to appeal to a wide range of aesthetics, making it a key trend for anyone looking to brighten up their wardrobe this spring. The widespread embrace of butter yellow shows that it’s not just a passing trend but a color that has truly captured the zeitgeist of the moment.
In February, KitchenAid named butter yellow the 2025 Color of the Year, further solidifying its place as a cultural and design trend. The company explained that they were “inspired by the most lovable ingredient of all. Butter is more than an indulgent, joyful color. It’s an invitation to savor life's simple heartfelt moments.” Brittni Petijis from KitchenAid elaborated, saying the color “evokes comforting memories and brings a sense of delight to every space.”
As butter yellow continues to dominate across industries—from fashion to interior design—it’s clear that it has become more than just a trend. It’s a color that encapsulates a positive, uplifting energy. Whether in your wardrobe, your kitchen or your living room, butter yellow is here to stay.
