Boo-Free Flicks: The Best Non Scary Halloween Films

By Thea Postalakis

With spooky season almost upon us, the temptation to stay in and watch Halloween movies is strong. For some, the so-called “classic” Halloween movies can be too scary. Thankfully, many other options still provide the same fun fall atmosphere. Whether you’re looking for a binge-worthy movie series, a Disney classic or a comedic autumn watch, there are endless choices available right at your fingertips.

Harry Potter Movie Series (2001-2011)

While the Harry Potter series isn’t exactly a

Halloween watch, the autumn scenery in

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Harry

Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Harry

Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban creates the

ultimate fall vibe. The dim atmospheric lights

of Hogwarts make for a cozy setting, and the delicious

meals of the Great Hall makes it the perfect night for

some homemade pumpkin bread and warm apple

cider.

Hocus Pocus (1993)

Hocus Pocus perfectly captures the spirit of Halloween with a quintessential blend of both trick and treat. A classic Disney movie, Hocus Pocus stirs together nostalgia, mischievousness and an ultimate endearing story about bravery and friendship. Moreover, the setting of Salem, a well-known witch town, ties in the perfect energy for the Halloween season. Link

Coraline (2009)

Coraline stands out as the ideal fall watch, wrapping

viewers in a mood of spooky charm. Its inspiring stop-motion

animation, along with the creepy, entrancing story,

catches the spirit of the days getting shorter and

shadows growing longer. Coraline makes you want to

curl up under a blanket, enjoy the cool, fresh air, and engross

yourself in the blend of awe and unease that makes

autumn so gripping.
