Once again, I find myself bombarded by advertisements selling me “the perfect spring break outfit.” I can’t shake the feeling that something is wrong with me—I have absolutely nothing planned for spring break. By choosing to stay home, I’ve relinquished a spring tradition considered integral to juniors in college.

During my week of rest and relaxation, maybe I’ll focus on healing. I’ll heal my cracked skin from the dry winter air, cut off my split ends, change my bed sheets, and momentarily release myself from scholarly obligations.

Then there’s the necessary evil—the conglomerate of heavy winter sweaters in my closet. I’ll stow them away for next winter and silently thank each one for keeping me warm.

I’ll heal myself by practicing gratitude.

I’ll receive messages from friends about their spring adventures. Maybe I’ll secretly pine for radiant sunshine and the vast ocean, but instead, I’ll look out the window of my childhood bedroom. Wrapped in fresh linens, in the company of a good book, I will realize I am exactly where I need to be.
