FILM-AZING TIMES AHEAD IN 2025
2025 is set to take the cinematic world by storm, but not in the way you might expect. While new films will premiere, the spotlight will be on the highly anticipated sequels hitting theaters this year. But will they live up to the original films? Or should studios have stopped after the first one?
Here are some of the most anticipated sequels of 2025.
Avatar: Fire and Ash.
Following "Avatar: The Way of Water," which premiered in 2022, this will be the third film in a planned five-movie saga. The cast includes returning stars Zoe Saldaña, Sam Worthington and Kate Winslet. Directed by James Cameron, the film is expected to be released in December.
Captain America: Brave New World
The film was released in theaters on Valentine’s Day and is now available on Hulu and Disney+ with a subscription. Anthony Mackie takes over as Captain America to continue the franchise. As always, fans can expect cameos, end-credit scenes and plenty of Marvel action. But the real question is: Will this film help keep the Marvel Cinematic Universe relevant in Phase Five, or was "Avengers: Endgame" the franchise’s peak?
Jurassic World Rebirth
The sixth installment in the Jurassic World series takes a different direction. Chris Pratt is not expected to return, but the film features a star-studded cast, including Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali.
Wicked: For Good.
Set for a November release, the film picks up where its predecessor left off, with Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey reprising their roles. Featuring songs from the Broadway musical, the film is expected to run close to three hours, delivering everything fans want and more.
Zootopia 2.
The long-awaited Disney sequel features Jason Bateman and Ginnifer Goodwin reprising their roles as Nick and Judy. Like the original, the film follows the duo as they put their detective skills to the test. Shakira may also return, possibly performing a second rendition of "Try Everything." The movie is slated for a November release.
